To assign a drive letter to an FTP location, and also be able to use the drive letter from an application or the command line, I use DriveMaker. DriveMaker is freeware and does the job, for example when we need to quickly edit files on a web server. But I also use it for virus scans, robocopy, etc., it works for file lengths of up to 4 GB.
If you have a file that's larger than that you would probably want to use an FTP client program instead, like FileZilla.
