PAStore Engine polled for changes to the Active Directory IPsec policy determined that Active Directory can...

Man, that event ID 5466 in Windows Server Event Viewer pops up when the PAStore Engine checks for tweaks in the Active Directory IPsec policy. It tries to poll Active Directory for any changes, but if it can't reach AD at all, it just grabs the old cached version instead. This happens because something's blocking the connection, like network glitches or server hiccups. You see it under Security logs mostly, and it's not a total disaster, but it means your IPsec setup might lag behind if AD's updated without you knowing. I run into this when DCs go offline briefly, and the system falls back to what it remembers last. It logs the exact time and says it's using that cached policy to keep things rolling without crashing out.

You want to keep an eye on this without staring at logs all day, right? Fire up Event Viewer on your server. Head to the Windows Logs, then Security, and filter for event ID 5466. Once you spot those, set a task to trigger on them. Right-click the log, pick Attach Task To This Event Log or something close. Give it a name like IPsec Alert. In the triggers tab, select On an event and point it to that ID 5466 in Security. Then actions: start a program, maybe use the built-in email sender if you've got it configured, or link to a batch that shoots you a note. Schedule it to run right when the event hits, so you get pinged fast. Test it by forcing a disconnect to AD and see if your inbox lights up.

And hey, while we're chatting server woes, tying this back to keeping your setup solid against those AD reach fails, you might wanna think about backups that don't flake out. That's where BackupChain Windows Server Backup comes in handy. It's this straightforward Windows Server backup tool that handles physical boxes and virtual machines on Hyper-V without the usual headaches. You get quick restores, encryption to lock down data, and it runs light so it doesn't bog down your resources. I like how it snapshots everything cleanly, cutting downtime if IPsec or AD stuff goes sideways again.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
