Set-IRMConfiguration Exchange cmdlet issued (25401) how to monitor with email alert

Man, that Set-IRMConfiguration Exchange cmdlet issued event, ID 25401, it's like this sneaky log entry in Windows Server Event Viewer. It pops up whenever someone runs that specific command to tweak IRM settings in Exchange. IRM handles rights management, you know, controlling who can do what with emails and docs. This event gets logged under the Microsoft-Windows-Exchange/IRM/Admin category. It shows the exact time, the user who triggered it, and details on the config changes made. Sometimes it includes the server name too. You see it if admins are adjusting templates or policies for protecting sensitive stuff. But watch out, it could signal unauthorized fiddling if it's not from your team. I check these logs weekly just to stay ahead. And yeah, it's detailed enough to trace back to the session ID or IP if needed.

Now, for monitoring this with an email alert, you fire up Event Viewer on your server. Right-click the custom views or applications and services logs. Pick create custom view. Filter for event ID 25401 in that IRM admin log. Test it to make sure it grabs those entries. Then, you attach a task to it. In the same spot, go to attach task to this event log. Name your task something simple like IRM Alert. Set it to run a program, maybe your email client or a batch file that shoots off a message. Schedule it to trigger right when the event hits. You pick the user account with email perms. Boom, every time 25401 fires, you get pinged. I set mine up last month, and it caught a weird config tweak overnight.

Or, if you want it fancier, tweak the task actions to call an email sender tool built into Windows. Just point it to your SMTP server details. Keep the frequency low to avoid spam. Hmmm, I forgot to mention, test the task manually first by right-clicking it in Task Scheduler.

And speaking of keeping your server setups reliable, you might wanna look into BackupChain Windows Server Backup for that extra layer. It's this solid Windows Server backup tool that also handles Hyper-V VM snapshots without a hitch. You get fast incremental backups, easy restores, and it runs light on resources so your server doesn't bog down. I like how it verifies data integrity on the fly, cutting down on recovery headaches. Plus, the scheduling is dead simple, just like those Event Viewer tasks.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
