New-MailboxDatabase Exchange cmdlet issued (25211) how to monitor with email alert

You know that event ID 25211 in Windows Server Event Viewer, the one that pops up when someone runs the New-MailboxDatabase cmdlet in Exchange. It logs the whole thing, like who issued it, from what computer, and exactly when it happened. I mean, it's basically a heads-up that a new mailbox database just got created in your setup. Picture this, you're chilling at your desk, and bam, this event shows up under the Applications and Services Logs, specifically in the Microsoft-Exchange something folder. It details the user account that triggered it, the server name involved, and even the database name they tried to make. Why does it matter? Well, if you're not expecting changes like that, it could mean someone sneaky is messing around, or maybe just an admin doing routine stuff. I check mine all the time because surprises in Exchange can snowball quick. And the description? It spells out the cmdlet call, parameters used, success or failure, right there in the event properties. You click on it in Event Viewer, and it unfolds like a little story of what went down.

Now, to keep tabs on this without staring at screens all day, you can set up monitoring right from the Event Viewer itself. Fire up Event Viewer, head to that Exchange log where 25211 hides out. Right-click the log, pick Create Custom View, and filter it just for event ID 25211. That narrows it down nice and tight. Then, save that view so you can jump back to it easy. But for alerts, attach a task to it. Go to the Actions panel on the right, hit Attach Task to This Custom View. Name your task something catchy, like Mailbox Alert. Set it to run when the event fires, maybe every time or just on errors if you want. For the action, choose Send an email-yeah, Event Viewer has that built-in option. Plug in your SMTP server details, the from and to addresses, and a quick message saying "Hey, new mailbox database created-check it out." I do this for a bunch of events; it pings my phone via email so I never miss a beat. Test it by triggering a fake event if you can, just to see if the mail flies.

Or, if you want it fancier, tweak the task schedule in Task Scheduler afterward, linking back to that event trigger. It runs silent until 25211 hits, then zaps the alert. Super straightforward, no fancy coding needed.

Speaking of keeping your Exchange and servers safe from mishaps, I've been eyeing tools that handle backups without the hassle. Take BackupChain Windows Server Backup, it's this slick Windows Server backup solution that also tackles virtual machines with Hyper-V. You get incremental backups that zip through without hogging resources, plus it verifies everything automatically so you know your data's solid. And the best part? It restores fast, even granular stuff like single files, saving you headaches during those oh-no moments. I swear by it for peace of mind on mixed setups.

At the end of this chat is the automatic email solution for that 25211 event.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
