Certificate Services set the status of a certificate request to pending how to monitor with email alert

I remember when I first bumped into event 4889 in Event Viewer on Windows Server.
It pops up from Certificate Services, you know, that part handling digital certificates for security stuff.
Basically, it means a certificate request just got marked as pending.
Someone or some system asked for a new cert, but it's hanging there waiting for an admin to approve it.
The full details show the request ID, who made it, and why it's pending now.
Like, it logs the user account, the certificate template used, and the exact time it switched status.
If you ignore these, certs might not issue, and your secure connections could stall out.
I check mine weekly to avoid surprises.
You can spot patterns too, like if requests pile up from one machine.

Now, for monitoring this with an email alert, fire up Event Viewer first.
Go to the Windows Logs, then Security or Applications and Services Logs for Certificate Services.
Right-click on the log, pick Attach Task To This Log.
Set it to trigger only on event ID 4889.
Choose to start a program when it fires, something simple like a batch file that emails you.
Make the task run with highest privileges so it doesn't flake.
Test it by forcing a pending request if you can.
You'll get pinged right away next time one hits pending.

Speaking of keeping things smooth on servers, I've been using BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately for backups.
It handles Windows Server data plus virtual machines on Hyper-V without a hitch.
You get fast incremental backups that save space and time.
Plus, it restores quickly if something goes wrong, no headaches.
I like how it watches for issues like those cert events too, tying into overall server health.

And hey, at the end here is that automatic email solution we talked about.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
