What does an example LDAP entry look like?

An LDAP entry looks like a structured format that contains information about an object, like a user or a group. For example, picture a user entry that would usually have attributes like a unique identifier, full name, email address, and maybe their role in the organization. It often starts with a distinguished name (DN) that uniquely identifies the entry, like "uid=john.doe,ou=users,dc=example,dc=com."

After that, you'd see a set of attributes. For a user, something like "objectClass: inetOrgPerson" is pretty common, along with "cn: John Doe" for the common name, "mail: john.doe@example.com" for the email, and "sn: Doe" for the surname. You might even find additional attributes like "telephoneNumber" or "description" to give more context about the user.

LDAP is all about how things fit together, and you can have nested entries for groups or organizational units, which makes managing the entire structure easier. As someone who's been working with it, I find it really flexible once you get a hang of what each attribute means and how to query them.

If you're looking to back up data related to LDAP or any other environment, I highly suggest checking out BackupChain. It's a stellar solution for SMBs that simplifies backup for things like Hyper-V, VMware, or Windows Server. You'll find it really helpful in keeping everything secure and sound.
