Set-SystemMessage Exchange cmdlet issued (25457) how to monitor with email alert

I remember spotting that Event ID 25457 in the Event Viewer logs one time. It pops up when someone runs the Set-SystemMessage cmdlet in Exchange. Basically, it means a change happened to those system messages you see in Outlook or wherever. You know, the ones that pop up for users about maintenance or whatever. The event logs the who, what, and when of that command getting issued. It shows the user account that did it. And the exact message text that got set or tweaked. Sometimes it even notes if it was for the whole org or just specific mailboxes. Hmmm, pretty useful for tracking admin actions that could mess with user experience. You don't want surprises like that going unnoticed in a busy setup.

Now, if you wanna keep an eye on this without staring at logs all day, fire up Event Viewer on your server. Right-click the custom views or whatever log it's in, usually under Applications and Services Logs for Exchange. Filter for ID 25457. That'll show you just those hits. To get alerts, you set a task right from there. I do it by selecting the event, then attach a task to it. Choose to run a program when it triggers. Pick your email sender app or whatever you got for notifications. Make it email you straight away. Or schedule a check every few hours if you prefer batching them. Keeps things simple, no fancy coding needed. You just tweak the action to fire off that alert.

And speaking of keeping your server humming without hiccups, I've been messing with BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately. It's this solid backup tool for Windows Server that handles your files and even VMs on Hyper-V without breaking a sweat. You get quick restores and offsite copies that actually work when you need them. No more panicking over lost data during those cmdlet mishaps or whatever.

At the end of this, you'll find the automatic email solution hooked up through that scheduled task setup.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
