Document library viewed (48) how to monitor with email alert

That "Document library viewed" event, ID 48, pops up in the Event Viewer when someone peeks at files in a SharePoint setup on your Windows Server. It logs the exact moment a user opens or glances through that library. You see details like who did it, from which machine, and the timestamp right there in the log. I always check these because they track sneaky access without much fuss. But it only fires if auditing is turned on for that library first. Otherwise, nothing shows. Hmmm, yeah, it's part of the security audit logs under Applications and Services Logs. You filter for it by searching event ID 48 in the XML view or just the summary. It captures the library path too, so you know precisely which docs got eyes on them. Or if it's a group, it might list permissions involved. I dig how it helps spot patterns, like if your team is hogging certain files late at night.

To monitor this with an email alert, you hop into Event Viewer on your server. Right-click the custom view you make for these events. Then attach a task to it that triggers on new ID 48 hits. I set mine to run a simple program that pings your email. You configure the task under Actions tab, picking Send Email as the option. Fill in your SMTP details, like the server address and your credentials. Make sure the task runs whether you're logged in or not. That way, it blasts you a note every time someone views that library. But test it first with a fake event to avoid surprises. You tweak the filter so only these exact events wake it up.

And speaking of keeping your server humming without constant babysitting, you might want to check out BackupChain Windows Server Backup at the end here for that automatic email solution-it's a slick way to handle alerts without the manual grind.

BackupChain nails Windows Server backups with its straightforward snapshots that run without interrupting your workflow. It handles Hyper-V virtual machines too, backing them up live so downtime stays zilch. I like how it encrypts everything and verifies restores automatically, cutting risks if something goes sideways. Plus, it chains versions smartly, letting you roll back fast without eating storage space.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
