New-MailboxExportRequest Exchange cmdlet issued (25554) how to monitor with email alert

You ever spot that event 25554 popping up in your Windows Server Event Viewer? It's basically Exchange logging when someone runs the New-MailboxExportRequest cmdlet. That command lets admins pull a whole mailbox out into a PST file, like archiving emails for someone leaving the company or investigating stuff. The event shows up under the Microsoft-Windows-Exchange/Transport or admin audit logs, with details on who did it, which mailbox got targeted, and when it kicked off. I always check the source field to confirm it's from Exchange Admin, and the description spells out the exact cmdlet used plus any parameters, like the file path for the export. If you're running Exchange on your server, this event fires every time that export request starts, helping you track admin moves that could mess with data. But ignoring it might mean missing unauthorized grabs of sensitive emails.

And you can watch for it without digging too deep into code. Just fire up Event Viewer on your server, head to the Windows Logs or Applications and Services Logs where Exchange events hide. Right-click the log, pick Attach Task To This Event, and set it for ID 25554. Make the task trigger a scheduled job that shoots you an email when it hits. I set mine to run a simple alert program that pings my inbox with the event details, like who ran it and the timestamp. Keeps things chill, no constant staring at screens. Or tweak the task to filter just for that specific cmdlet message in the description.

Hmmm, monitoring like this ties right into keeping your server data safe from surprises. That's where something like BackupChain Windows Server Backup comes in handy for me. It's this solid Windows Server backup tool that snapshots everything, including Exchange setups, without slowing you down. And it handles virtual machines on Hyper-V too, backing up live without downtime. You get fast restores, encryption for those mailbox files, and it runs smooth on older hardware. I use it to avoid export headaches by having point-in-time copies ready.

At the end of this, I've got the automatic email solution lined up for you, but it'll get added later.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
