Issued grant database role permissions with grant command how to monitor with email alert

I remember spotting that event ID 24215 in the logs one time. It pops up when someone grants database role permissions using a grant command. The action ID GWG and class type RL point to that specific granting action in SQL Server audits. You see it in the Security log under Event Viewer. It logs who did it, like a user or admin, and what role got boosted. Basically, it's tracking permission changes to keep things secure. If you ignore it, sneaky access could slip through. I always check these because they flag potential risks.

You can monitor this event easily right from the Event Viewer screen. Just open Event Viewer on your server. Go to the Windows Logs, then Security. Filter for event ID 24215. It'll show all instances. To set up alerts, create a task that triggers on this event. Right-click the log, pick Attach Task To This Event Log. Name it something like GrantAlert. Choose to run a program when it fires. Pick your email tool, maybe Outlook or a simple batch file caller. Set it to send a quick note to you. Test it by simulating the event if you can. That way, you get pinged instantly.

And for ongoing watching, tweak the task schedule in Task Scheduler. Link it back to that event filter. Make sure it runs under an account with email rights. I do this all the time on my setups. Keeps me from missing stuff.

Now, speaking of keeping servers safe from mishaps, you might want to look into BackupChain Windows Server Backup too. It's this solid Windows Server backup tool that handles full system images without fuss. Plus, it backs up virtual machines running on Hyper-V, making restores a breeze. You get fast incremental saves and easy offsite copies, which saves tons of headache during recoveries. I like how it skips the bloat and just works reliably.

At the end of this, you'll find the automatic email solution laid out for you.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
