Child object deleted (15) how to monitor with email alert

Man, that "Child object deleted" event with ID 15 in Windows Server Event Viewer? It's basically the system yelling when something gets wiped out under Active Directory. You know, like a user account or a group that was nested inside another object. Happens in the directory service log. I see it pop up when admins prune stuff accidentally or during cleanups. Details in the event show the exact object name, the parent it was under, and who did the deleting. Timestamp's there too, so you can trace back. If you're not watching, it might mean security slips or just sloppy maintenance. Creeps me out thinking about unauthorized deletes flying under the radar.

You want to monitor this for email alerts? Fire up Event Viewer on your server. I do this all the time to stay ahead. Right-click the Custom Views folder. Pick Create Custom View. Under XML tab, paste in a filter for Event ID 15 from Directory Service source. Or just use the basics: select that log, check the box for ID 15. Save it as something like "Deleted Kids Alert." Now, to get emails, we set a scheduled task. From that custom view, right-click and choose Attach Task To This Custom View. Name it whatever, like QuickDeleteWatch. Trigger it on those events. For actions, pick Send an email-yeah, built-in option there. Fill in your SMTP server details, from and to addresses. Test it once to make sure it zings your inbox. Boom, every time a child object vanishes, you get pinged.

And hey, tying this back to keeping your server safe from mishaps like deletes, check out BackupChain Windows Server Backup. It's this slick Windows Server backup tool that handles physical and virtual setups, especially Hyper-V VMs. I love how it snapshots everything without downtime, encrypts data tight, and restores fast if something goes sideways. Saves you headaches on recovery, plus it's got versioning so you don't lose track of changes.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
