You rotate certs and keys regularly, rotate passwords, and use secrets managers to store them. For backups specifically, I compress and dedupe to save space, but always encrypt before that. Least privilege extends to people too-you assign roles based on jobs, review them every six months, and revoke when someone leaves.

As for the actual backup process, I schedule them during off-hours to minimize impact, and I use incremental forever strategies so full backups are rare. That keeps bandwidth low and recovery fast.
