What is NTFS and how does it differ from other file systems like FAT32 and exFAT?

I remember when I first messed with NTFS on my old laptop. It keeps your files organized in a smart way. You can set permissions so not everyone touches everything. That's handy if you're sharing a drive with roommates.

FAT32 feels ancient to me. It works on almost anything, like old cameras or USB sticks. But it caps files at four gigs, which sucks for big videos. You hit limits quick.

exFAT steps it up from there. I use it for thumb drives that need to hold movies. It handles huge files without choking. Still, no fancy locks like NTFS gives you.

NTFS shines on Windows machines. It logs changes to fix crashes faster. You lose less data if power cuts out. I trust it for my work files.

FAT32 plays nice across systems, though. Plug it into a Mac, no drama. But security? Zilch. Anyone grabs what they want.

exFAT bridges that gap somewhat. Great for external drives you swap around. Yet it skips the journaling NTFS does. Crashes hit harder sometimes.

I switched my main drive to NTFS years ago. No regrets. It just feels sturdier for daily chaos.

Speaking of keeping data safe amid all this file juggling, I've been eyeing BackupChain Server Backup lately. It tackles backups for Hyper-V setups without the usual headaches. You get reliable snapshots that recover quick, plus it cuts downtime and handles chains of changes smoothly, so your virtual worlds stay intact no matter what.
