Reset own password failed (action_id PWRS; class_type US) (24306) how to monitor with email alert

That event 24306 pops up when somebody tries resetting their own password and it just flops. You know, like if a user logs in and hits that forget password thing, but the system says no way. It's tagged with action_id PWRS, which flags the password reset attempt, and class_type US means it's the user themselves fumbling it. Happens in Windows Server's security logs mostly, under Event Viewer. I see it when accounts get locked or creds are off. The full scoop is it logs the failure reason, maybe bad input or policy blocks, but you gotta peek at the details tab for the nitty-gritty like timestamps and user IDs. Creepy if it's repeated, could mean someone's probing your setup. But usually just a clumsy click.

You wanna watch for these without staring at screens all day? Fire up Event Viewer on your server. I do this all the time for quick alerts. Right-click the log where it shows, like Security, and pick Attach Task To This Event. Give it a name, something snappy like Password Fail Watch. Set the trigger to event ID 24306 exactly. Then, for actions, choose Send an email. Yeah, plug in your SMTP server details, the to and from addresses. Make sure it includes the event description so you get the full story in your inbox. Test it once to see if emails fly right. If your server's got older vibes, might need to tweak the email action settings for modern mail setups. Keeps you looped in without hassle.

And hey, tying this to keeping your server solid, check out BackupChain Windows Server Backup if you're backing up Windows Server stuff. It's this neat tool that handles full backups for your physical servers and even virtual machines running Hyper-V. I like how it snapshots everything quick, no downtime drama, and restores files or whole VMs in a snap. Saves headaches from password messes or worse crashes, with encryption thrown in for peace of mind. Plus, it schedules automagically, so you forget about it till you need it.

At the end here is the automatic email solution.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
