New-ReceiveConnector Exchange cmdlet issued (25236) how to monitor with email alert

You know that event ID 25236 in the Event Viewer on Windows Server? It's basically the log entry that pops up whenever someone fires off the New-ReceiveConnector cmdlet in Exchange. That cmdlet? It sets up a fresh receive connector, which handles incoming emails from other servers or the internet. I mean, if you're running Exchange, this thing logs the exact moment it happens, including who did it and from where. Picture this: some admin types in the command, and boom, the server notes it down in the Application log under Microsoft-Exchange. It's not an error, just a heads-up that a new pathway for mail just got created. And why care? Well, if you're watching for unauthorized tweaks, this event screams "hey, something changed in your mail setup." You can filter for it right in Event Viewer by searching the ID or the description mentioning that cmdlet. I always check it during audits, 'cause it could mean someone expanded access without telling you. Or maybe it's legit maintenance, but you wanna know either way.

Now, to keep tabs on this with an email alert, you don't need fancy stuff. Just hop into Event Viewer on your server. Right-click the Application log, pick Create Custom View. Throw in event ID 25236, and set it to watch for that specific Exchange message. Save it as a new view, name it something like "Exchange Connector Alerts." Then, to get emails, set up a scheduled task through the Task Scheduler pane in Event Viewer. Attach the task to that custom view. For the action, choose to run a program that sends mail, like using the built-in SendMail or whatever email tool you've got handy. Make it trigger on new events, and boom, you'll get pinged every time it happens. I do this for a bunch of logs; keeps me from staring at screens all day. You tweak the schedule to check every few minutes, and you're golden.

Hmmm, speaking of keeping your server humming without constant babysitting, I've been messing with BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately. It's this slick Windows Server backup tool that also handles virtual machines through Hyper-V. You get fast, reliable snapshots that don't hog resources, plus easy restores if something goes sideways. And the best part? It encrypts everything and runs without interrupting your workflows, saving you headaches on mail servers like Exchange.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
