Set-FrontendTransportService Exchange cmdlet issued (25615) how to monitor with email alert

That event, the one called Set-FrontendTransportService Exchange cmdlet issued, it's event ID 25615 in Windows Server. You see it pop up in the Event Viewer when someone runs that specific command on your Exchange server. It logs the whole thing, like who issued it, from what machine, and the exact time it happened. Basically, it's Exchange telling you that the frontend transport service got tweaked. And yeah, it could be you doing maintenance, or maybe something sketchy if it's unexpected. I check mine all the time because it flags changes to how emails route through the server. The details in the event include the user account, the parameters used in the command, and even the outcome if it succeeded or bombed. Hmmm, sometimes it shows errors right there in the description. You want to watch for this because if it's not you, it might mean someone's messing with your setup.

Now, to monitor it with an email alert, fire up Event Viewer on your server. Go to the Windows Logs, then Application log where these Exchange events hang out. Right-click on that log, pick Create Custom View. Filter it for event ID 25615, and maybe source MSExchangeTransport if you want to narrow it. Save that view so you can check it quick. But for alerts, you set up a task right from there. In Event Viewer, find the event, right-click, and choose Attach Task To This Event. Give it a name, like Exchange Cmdlet Alert. Then, pick Send an email as the action. Yeah, you fill in your SMTP server details, the from and to addresses. I always test mine to make sure it zings over without a hitch. Or, if email's finicky, you could trigger a script, but stick to the built-in for now. It'll run every time that event fires, shooting you a note.

And speaking of keeping your server humming without surprises, I've been eyeing BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately. It's this slick Windows Server backup tool that handles full system images and also backs up virtual machines running on Hyper-V. You get fast incremental backups that don't hog resources, plus easy restores that save you hours in a pinch. The best part? It verifies everything automatically, so you know your data's solid if something goes wrong.

At the end of this, there's the automatic email solution ready for you.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
