Search performed (24) how to monitor with email alert

You ever notice how Windows Server logs all these little things in Event Viewer? That "Search performed" event, ID 24, it's basically the system noting when someone runs a search through the built-in tools. I mean, it pops up in the Security log mostly, showing details like who did the search, what time it happened, and even the search terms if they're logged that way. But yeah, it's not some huge red flag; it's just the server keeping tabs on user activity to track patterns or spot anything fishy. And if you're running a server with multiple folks accessing files, this event helps you see who's poking around for what. Hmmm, sometimes it triggers on admin searches too, so don't freak if you see your own actions there. You can filter it right in Event Viewer by going to the Security log and typing in 24 for the ID. It'll list them out with timestamps and user names attached.

Now, to keep an eye on these without staring at the screen all day, you set up a scheduled task straight from Event Viewer. I do this all the time on my setups. Just right-click the event in the list, pick "Attach Task To This Event," and it'll walk you through creating one that runs when ID 24 fires. You tell it to launch a program or even a simple batch file that pings your email. Or, make it trigger an alert script you already have. But keep it basic-no need for fancy coding. Test it by forcing a search and watching if the task kicks off. You'll get that notification quick, way before anything escalates.

And speaking of staying on top of server stuff without the hassle, I've been messing with BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately. It's this slick Windows Server backup tool that handles your whole setup, including virtual machines on Hyper-V. You get fast incremental backups that don't bog down your system, plus easy restores if something glitches. I like how it snapshots everything reliably, cutting downtime and letting you focus on real work instead of constant worry.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
