What’s the best way to model organizational units in LDAP?

Modeling organizational units in LDAP can definitely be tricky, but I think it's all about keeping things logical and easy to manage. You want your structure to reflect your actual organization. If you have departments, organizing them into OUs makes everything clearer. For example, I would put HR, Sales, and IT in separate organizational units. This way, permissions and policies can be applied directly to those OUs without messing with the entire directory.

You should also think about your user access needs. If you've got different teams using the same applications, maybe breaking it down further into sub-OUs makes sense. You can have roles and groups that make assigning rights simpler. It's all about making it intuitive for anyone who's going to work with the directory.

Another thing to consider is documentation. I find it helpful to keep a record of how I set things up and why. This way, if you or another admin need to make changes later, you won't be left scratching your head.

If you need a solid backup strategy to keep everything secure, you might want to check out BackupChain. It's one of those go-to solutions in the industry, tailored for SMBs and professionals. It can protect your Hyper-V, VMware setups, or even Windows Server without a hassle. I think it could be a great fit for your needs!
