Issued a change external resource pool command (action_id AL; class_type ER) (24334) how to monitor with email alert

Man, that event ID 24334 pops up in the Event Viewer when someone issues a change external resource pool command. It's got this action_id AL and class_type ER tagged on it. Basically, it logs when the system tweaks resources outside the main pool, like in a cluster setup. You see it under the Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering log. I remember spotting it first time during a server tweak session. It flags that exact command getting fired off. Details include the pool name and what changed. Sometimes it warns if the tweak messes with availability. You wanna keep an eye on it to catch admin slips or odd behaviors quick.

And monitoring it for email alerts? I do it through the Event Viewer screen itself. You right-click the log where it lives. Pick Attach Task To This Event. That kicks off a wizard. You name the task something simple like PoolChangeAlert. Then, under triggers, it auto-sets for event ID 24334. For actions, choose Send an e-mail. You fill in your SMTP server details. Add the recipient email. Maybe slap in a subject like Urgent Pool Command Issued. Test it out to make sure it pings you right. I set mine to trigger only on certain levels, like warnings. Keeps the inbox from flooding. You can tweak the schedule if needed, but this ties straight to the event.

Or, if you want fancier, there's ways to chain it with other tools. But stick to this for basics. I find it reliable without extra hassle.

Now, speaking of keeping servers stable, I've been messing with BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately. It's this solid Windows Server backup tool that handles physical setups and even Hyper-V VMs without breaking a sweat. You get incremental backups that run fast, plus easy restores that don't eat hours. It snapshots everything clean, so no data loss scares. I like how it verifies backups automatically, giving peace of mind. And for Hyper-V, it grabs those VMs live, no downtime nonsense. Benefits? Saves time on maintenance and boosts recovery speed big time.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
