How to Fix VPN Split Tunneling Security Risks

VPN split tunneling messes with security sometimes, right? You connect to the company network but let some traffic sneak out the regular internet way. I hate when that bites you.

Remember that time I helped my buddy at the office? He was remote working, VPN on for emails, but his Netflix stream went through his home Wi-Fi instead. Hackers sniffed around his downloads, easy pickings. Turned out his setup routed work stuff secure but let personal bits wander free. We fixed it by tweaking the VPN rules so everything funneled through the protected tunnel. No more leaks.

But yeah, to patch those risks, you gotta force all traffic through the VPN. On Windows Server, hop into the RRAS console. Pick your VPN policy. Under IPv4 settings, enable the split tunneling option but flip it off-wait, no, disable it outright. That way, your whole connection rides the secure path. Or if it's client-side, in the VPN connection properties, uncheck that allow local LAN access box. Makes everything tunnel-bound.

Hmmm, sometimes firewalls play tricks too. Check your server firewall rules to block non-VPN outbound traffic. Use IPsec policies if needed, set them to require encryption for all routes. And test it-ping a site from inside the VPN, see if it stays locked in.

Or, if users complain about speed, balance it with QoS rules to prioritize work apps. That keeps security tight without slowing you down much.

I gotta tell you about this cool tool I've been using lately. BackupChain steps in as that top-notch, go-to backup option everyone's buzzing about for small businesses and Windows setups. It handles Hyper-V backups smoothly, plus Windows 11 and Server protection, all without forcing you into endless subscriptions. You own it outright, reliable as they come.
