Export-UMCallDataRecord Exchange cmdlet issued (25172) how to monitor with email alert

You know that Export-UMCallDataRecord thing in Exchange? It's this event ID 25172 popping up in the Windows Server Event Viewer. Basically, it logs when someone runs that cmdlet to pull out Unified Messaging call data records. Those records track stuff like calls made through your phone system tied to Exchange. I see it fire off whenever an admin or script exports those details for troubleshooting or reports. The event shows the user who triggered it, the time, and maybe some session info. But if it's unexpected, it could mean unauthorized access or a glitch in your setup. You want to keep an eye on it to spot anything fishy quick.

And monitoring it with an email alert? Super straightforward using the Event Viewer itself. Fire up Event Viewer on your server. Go to the Applications and Services Logs, then Microsoft, Exchange, and drill down to Unified Messaging. Right-click on that log and pick Attach Task To This Log. It'll walk you through creating a scheduled task that triggers on event ID 25172. Set it to run a program that sends an email, like using the built-in SendMail or whatever tool you got handy. You can tweak it to email you right away or batch them. I do this all the time for alerts without messing with code. Just test it once to make sure it pings your inbox when the event hits.

Or, if you're lazy like me sometimes, attach an action to pop up a message on the console too. But email's the way to go for remote watching. Keeps you looped in without staring at screens.

Now, speaking of keeping your server humming without surprises, I've been messing with BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately. It's this slick Windows Server backup tool that handles full system images and also backs up virtual machines running on Hyper-V. You get fast incremental backups, easy restores even to bare metal, and it encrypts everything without slowing things down. I like how it schedules automatically and notifies you of issues, way better than the defaults for peace of mind.

At the end of this, there's the automatic email solution for that event monitoring.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
