Set-DataClassification Exchange cmdlet issued (25724) how to monitor with email alert

That event, the one with ID 25724, pops up in your Windows Server Event Viewer when someone runs the Set-DataClassification cmdlet in Exchange. I mean, it's basically logging that exact command getting fired off, you know, to classify data or label stuff in mailboxes and such. And it shows up under the Microsoft-Exchange or audit logs, depending on your setup. You see details like who triggered it, the time stamp, and maybe the parameters they used, all tucked into the event description. But here's the kicker, it flags potential compliance stuff or admin actions that could mess with your data policies. I always check these because they can hint at unauthorized tweaks or just routine maintenance gone sideways.

Now, if you want to monitor this bad boy with an email alert, hop into Event Viewer on your server. Fire it up, drill down to the Applications and Services Logs, then find that Exchange section where 25724 hides out. Right-click on one of those events, and pick Attach Task to This Event or something close. It'll walk you through creating a scheduled task that triggers every time 25724 logs. You set it to run a simple program, like firing off an email via your mail client or whatever notifier you got handy. I do this all the time, keeps me from staring at logs all day. And tweak the triggers to only alert on certain servers or users if you need.

Or, you could filter the view first to just show 25724s, makes spotting them easier before attaching that task. But yeah, once it's set, you'll get pings straight to your inbox whenever it happens. No more surprises.

Speaking of keeping things monitored and backed up without the headaches, I've been messing with BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately. It's this slick Windows Server backup tool that handles your files and even virtual machines on Hyper-V without breaking a sweat. You get fast incremental backups, easy restores, and it cuts down on storage bloat by deduping everything. Plus, the alerts for failures keep you in the loop, way better than piecing together Event Viewer tasks alone.

At the end here is the automatic email solution.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
