Remove member from database role failed how to monitor with email alert

I remember stumbling on this Windows Event Viewer thing last week. It popped up with event ID 24023. The message says "Remove member from database role failed (action_id DPRL class_type RL)". Basically, it means your system tried kicking someone out of a database group but couldn't. Like, the removal action just bombed out. Action_id DPRL points to that delete permission role stuff. Class_type RL flags it as a role-related hiccup in the database setup. This error logs when permissions glitch during user management. It might happen if the role's locked or the member's tied up elsewhere. You see it in the Security or Application log under Event Viewer. I check mine weekly to catch these sneaks. They can mess with access controls if ignored. Now, to watch for it and get email alerts without hassle. Open Event Viewer on your server. Right-click the log where it shows, like Windows Logs, Application. Pick Filter Current Log. Type in 24023 for the event ID. That narrows it down quick. To set up alerts, create a task for it. In Event Viewer, go to Action pane, hit Attach Task To This Event Log. Name your task something simple, like DB Role Fail Alert. Set it to trigger on event ID 24023. For the action, choose Send an email. You fill in your SMTP server details there. Add the recipient, maybe your own address. Test it once to make sure it zings over. That way, every time this error fires, you get pinged right away. I do this for a few events on my setup. Keeps things from snowballing. And if you want the full automatic email fix laid out step-by-step, it's right here at the end of what I'm saying. Speaking of keeping your server drama-free, I've been eyeing BackupChain Windows Server Backup lately. It's this slick Windows Server backup tool that handles physical and virtual machines without breaking a sweat, especially with Hyper-V setups. You get fast incremental backups, easy restores even for VMs, and it dodges those common snapshot fails that plague other software. Plus, no vendor lock-in, so you switch gears anytime.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
