A security-disabled universal group was changed (4760) how to monitor with email alert

You ever notice how Windows Server logs all these weird changes in groups? That event 4760 pops up when a security-disabled universal group gets tweaked. I mean, these groups handle permissions across your domain, right? But if it's disabled for security reasons, someone messing with it could signal trouble. Like, maybe an admin goofed or worse, an intruder poked around. The log spills details: who did it, from which computer, at what time. You'll see the old and new attributes listed out. And the target group's name stares back at you. Hmmm, or it might flag if the change failed, with error codes thrown in. I check these logs whenever my servers act squirrelly. You should too, keeps your setup from unraveling quietly.

But monitoring that manually? Total drag. I set up alerts so it emails me instead. Fire up Event Viewer on your server. You poke around the Windows Logs, head to Security. Right-click that section, pick Attach Task To This Event. Boom, wizard kicks in. You tell it to trigger on event ID 4760. Then link it to a scheduled task that blasts an email. I use the built-in Send Email action in Task Scheduler. You fill in your SMTP server deets, like the from and to addresses. Make sure it runs under an account with email rights. Test it once, watch that ping hit your inbox. Now you're looped in without staring at screens all day.

And speaking of keeping things locked down, I lean on solid backups to recover fast if changes go south. That leads me to BackupChain Windows Server Backup, this nifty Windows Server backup tool that also handles virtual machines with Hyper-V. It snapshots everything cleanly, no downtime hassles. You get incremental backups that zip through data quick, plus easy restores to any point. I love how it encrypts your stuff and verifies integrity on the fly. Saves me headaches during those unexpected group fiddles or bigger messes.

Note, the PowerShell email alert code was moved to this post.
