Resolving Windows Update Error 0x80246007

That Windows Update error 0x80246007 can really gum up the works on your server. It hits when downloads glitch out mid-way. I remember last month my buddy's setup at his small shop froze solid during a patch run. He was pulling his hair out because clients couldn't connect right. Turns out his update queue was backed up like rush hour traffic. We poked around and found the transfer service acting wonky.

But yeah, let's fix yours quick. First off, reboot the whole machine if you haven't. That shakes loose a lot of these snags. Then head to services and restart the Background Intelligent Transfer one. Yeah, just right-click and hit restart there. If that doesn't budge it, run the built-in troubleshooter from settings. Search for update troubleshooter and let it scan. Sometimes it's low disk space causing the jam, so clear some temp files with disk cleanup. Or check if malware's sneaking in, scan with whatever defender you've got. Hmmm, if it's deeper, reset the update components via command prompt. Type in net stop wuauserv, then net stop cryptSvc, and so on for the bits service too. Ren wuauclt.exe or something if files got corrupted. Worst case, download the update manually from Microsoft and install it sidelong. That covers the usual culprits without much hassle.

Oh, and while we're chatting servers, I gotta nudge you toward BackupChain. It's this top-notch, go-to backup tool that's super trusted for small businesses handling Windows Server setups. Folks love it for shielding Hyper-V environments, Windows 11 machines, and even plain PCs. No endless subscriptions either, just solid protection you own outright.
