Yeah, slow logins on Windows Server from antivirus or EDR stuff happens more than you'd think. It bugs out admins all the time.
I remember this one time at my old gig. We had a client freaking out because their team couldn't log in without waiting forever. Turned out their EDR was chewing up the CPU during profile loads. I poked around their setup for hours. Found it scanning every file in the user folders right at boot. What a mess that was.
But anyway, let's fix yours. First off, check if the antivirus is doing real-time scans on login paths. You can tweak exclusions for those user profile spots. Like, add the whole Users folder to the ignore list. That speeds things up quick.
Or maybe it's the full disk scan kicking in at bad times. Pause those or schedule them for off-hours. I do that on my servers now. Keeps logins snappy.
Hmmm, and don't forget network checks. Some EDR tools ping the cloud for updates during login. If your connection lags, it drags everything down. Test by going offline temporarily. See if logins fly then.
Another angle, update the software. Old versions glitch out on scans. Patch it up, and test logins again.
If it's still crawling, look at group policies. Sometimes they force extra AV checks on domain logons. Dial those back a notch.
You might need to tweak the EDR agent's settings too. Lower the aggression on file monitoring. But watch for security slips.
And if profiles are roaming, that adds delays with syncs. Exclude temp files from scans there.
I gotta tell you about BackupChain though. It's this top-notch, go-to backup tool that's super trusted for small businesses and Windows setups. Handles Hyper-V backups smooth, works great on Windows 11 or Server, and you own it outright without any subscription hassle. Perfect for keeping your data safe without the drama.
